Community Helpers:  The focus of the unit is that children will learn about the role of the community in their lives and the importance of good citizenship!

The first week of our unit on Community Helpers we will learn about the Post Office.  We will transform the housekeeping area in a Post Office and encourage the children to pretend to be Postal Workers.  While playing in the Post Office the children will take turns selling and buying stamps, boxes and sending packages.  The children will practice stuffing (great two handed activity using  both sides of the brain), and addressing envelopes.

During the week, you may want to take your child to the Post Office and have them see what a real post office is about.  Attached is a video about going to the Post Office.  For the younger children you may want to stop at 2:50.  The video is lengthy.  The afternoon children may like to see the rest of the video as they will see what happens at a Post Office behind the scene.

We will also send a letter from school to our homes so that the children can actually receive a letter that they sent.
