Community Helpers

Community Helpers:  The focus of the unit is that children will learn about the role of the community in their lives and the importance of good citizenship!

The first week of our unit on Community Helpers we will learn about the Post Office.  We will transform the housekeeping area in a Post Office and encourage the children toUSPS2 pretend to be Postal Workers.  While playing in the Post Office the children will take turns selling and buying stamps, boxes and sending packages.  The children will practice stuffing (great two handed activity using  both sides of the brain), and addressing envelopes.

During the week, you may want to take your child to the Post Office and have them see what a real post office is about.  Attached is a video about going to the Post Office.  For the younger children you may want to stop at 2:50.  The video is lengthy.  The afternoon children may like to see the rest of the video as they will see what happens at a Post Office behind the scene.

We will also send a letter from school to our homes so that the children can actually receive a letter that they sent.

Halloween week

This week we will be stepping away from the curriculum and enjoy some silly, fun and gooey halloween antics.silly and rediculoushalloween-decorations

We will carve and decorate pumpkins, explore the sensory table with the guts from the pumpkins and have our own halloween party.

On Thursday you may send your child to school in their costume as long as it does not interfere with there ability to move safely around the room. No Masks Please!! –

CORRECTION:  We will wear our costumes throughout the day on Thursday and have a small halloween party in our rooms.  No parade on Thursday!! You are invited to come back in on Friday Morning and participate in the Building wide parade and festivities for all students and families.

Here are the times:

8:45 -9:15 Kindergarten snack and craft in the gym (all families)

9:20 Kindergarten performance

9:45 All school Halloween parade

If you would like to have your child participate in the parade you may do so.

The first quarter of school ended on October 23rd.  You will be receiving progress notes and report cards via email within the next two weeks.  Conferences will be held the week of Thanksgiving. Remember there is no school that week .  I will be sending home reminders of when your conference is scheduled during that week.

Wednesday is wacky Wednesday,  Need I say more!
