HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

BUILDING STUDY

The New year begins with our building study.  This week we will ask the students what they know about buildings.  We will read The 3 Little Pigs and Changes, Changes.  Of course the students will love the activities we have planned for The 3 Little Pigs.  They will be making homes for the Pigs and using a hairdryer to blow the houses down just as the Wolf did in the story.

Our math lesson will include graphing how many people live in our own homes and we will be making blue prints and buildings for art.

The entire downstairs will be joining in on a family project.  Please read the information below and have your family creation in to school by January 22, 2018

January Family Project – Paper bag Building

To kick off our buildings unit we are asking each child to design or recreate a house or building from their community. Ask your child about someplace they like to go, or while driving discuss the different stores, building, and houses you pass and ask them about the similarities and differences. This could help them design and create their own building using the paper bag. You can add on by using construction paper, small toys, or various crafting supplies to create a building or house for our Building Community!

Below is an examples:

Be creative and have everyone in the family participate.  It will be fun to see what creations show up to school!

PM Class only:

Monday we will be visited by Miss Debi Abela from the University Circle Initiative.  She will be sharing information with the students about the Museum for Contemporary Art-MOCA.  We will be taking our first 2018 field trip this Thursday to MOCA..  This museum is very interesting and will get the students thinking about various shapes and lines they may find in art.

For those of you who did not send snack in before break we are in need of snack, paper towels and napkins.  Thanks for helping us out!!

More Trees

Who Lives in Trees?

This week we will be revisiting the Grouchy Ladybug and read Henny Penny.  Remembering the story of Henny Penny, an acorn falls on the chicken’s head and she thinks the sky is falling.  When in actuality it is an acorn that falls.  Who lives in trees that might eat or hide acorns?  We will discuss this with the children and perhaps get some interesting answers? The letter  M and N are our letters for the week and we will be measuring for Math.

This will be the first week that Mrs. Lindsey Camardo will be subbing for me.  The children will call her Miss Lindsey.  Again if you are in the building stop in and say hello.  She is very qualified to do my job and your beautiful babies are in good hands.

We did not get to apple tasting last week as it was a super busy week with Fire Safety and the afternoon field trip. This week we will revisit apple tasting and graph how many children like each flavor.  Yum!

On Wednesday afternoon our students have gym with Mr. Kull .  They are learning about “self space” and “group space.”  He always has amazing activities for the students.

The letter of the week is Tt.

Unit study : Beginning of school

Our focus questions this week are When do things happen at school ?(Monday) and

Who works at our school? Tuesday thru Thursday.

rules

Our letter this week is R and our color is Red.  We will teach it as R, rat, /r/.  Please try to dress your child in something red throughout the week.  This will help to reinforce the color along with the letter R.  We will have red rice in the sensory table to play with along with decorating the letter R with rectangles.  We will also make rockets with your child’s name on it.  It will be a gRRRReat week with the letter R.  We will have a visitor to the classroom from the school who keeps our school clean and safe.  The class will be able to ask him questions about his job.  It’s Mr. Bill our custodian!!

The ASQ link is in the process of being loaded to the website.  When it is up and running we will let you know.  Using the seesaw app has been fun for the children to see their work after I have taken a picture and for them to tell you what it is.  If I accidentally send someone else’s picture or video to you please let me know.  I am notorious for making technological mistakes!!rules

What are our Rules?

This week we will be asking the children What are our rules at school?  We will review the rules in the building and with each other while we are in the classroom.

This week is the letter is S.  We will make a snake or choose to paint.  We will practice making the letter S on a page that reinforces the skyline, airplane line (middle line) and the grass line-bottom.  Kindergarten uses this program called  Fundations.  The children will see the letter S and picture of something that begins with S and then make the sound ie) S, snake /s/.  This will be how we will teach the children the letter and the corresponding sound.  It is amazing how quickly they will pick up the sound and letter identification.  We will also begin to assess all of our students in the next few weeks as the Ohio Department of Education strongly suggests that all of our students are assessed within the first 30 days of school.  This truly is a baseline to see what they know and what they need to learn!!

If you have not filled out your transition from day care to school sheet and or roster please let me know and I will email it to you.  The Step Up to Quality Folks have not come yet but they could any day.

The ASQ link is in the process of being loaded to the website.  When it is up and running we will let you know.  Also if you get a link for Seesaw please click on it and I will welcome you to the group.  It really is a super way to see what your student in doing.  I will try to upload pictures and videos at least twice a week if not more!!

PM Class ONLY:

In the next week or so we will be sending out our sign up sheet through Sign Up Genius for the first field trip to the Museum which will be Dunham Tavern.  More information to come in the nest week or so on the museum.  We can allow 5 chaperones per field trip per class along with staff.school-busEducation-quotes-Education-is-our-passport-to-the-future-for-tomorrow-belongs-to-the-people-who-prepare-for-it-todayCome and join the fun!

Welcome to Room 105 Blog site!

Welcome to school!

Everyone seems to be slowly settling into the routine in the classroom.  Thank you for helping your child adjust to a new routine.

The unit we are working on within the Creative Curriculum is Beginning the Year. This week our Focus question is “What should you do if you get scared or sad at school?”  Thus we will be investigating our feelings and how to deal with them when they occur. The student’s will be playing a feelings memory game , matching feelings pictures and  identifying how they are feeling each day when they come to school.

The students will read Glad Monster, Sad Monster by Ed Emberley and create their own faces of how they are feeling.  I am positive the faces they make will be amazing!

A few notes to families:  If you have not filled out your transitions plans and roster sheets please do so and send them in.  I will be sending out an email with the attachments for you to fill out if needed.  Snack is due.  As the weather begins to change, please dress your child in layers.   We will go outside to play each day and want them to be comfortable.

For the PM class, we have gym with Mr. Nate Kull on Wednesdays.  Please make sure your child wears gym shoes.

The schedule for the field trips for the PM class has just arrived and we will be sharing that information with you all very soon.  We are so excited about this new adventure the afternoon DAP class will participate in and look forward to our first trip!  Can’t wait!
