It’s Dr. Seuss’ birthday and Right to Read Week!

This week we will not only be celebrating Right to Read week but also Dr. Seuss’s Birthday!!!

All of our centers this week will be centered around Dr. Seuss.

We have fun ideas planned everyday this week with a “dress up” theme as well.

Monday we will read  the “Sleep Book”  and of course wear our Pajama’s to school!!  This is one of our favorite days.

Tuesday will be “Green Eggs and Ham” and we will wear the color green.

Wednesday is always “Wacky Wednesday “ so be prepared to wear mismatched clothes, or wear them backwards, inside out, whatever tickles your fancy!!

Thursday we will read “The Cat in the Hat” and wear your favorite hat to school.  It sounds like an amazing week.  Seesaw pictures to follow of course!

Robots act two!!

This week we will continue with our Robot theme and make one with each classroom.  We have saved many items to add to our creations so it will be an amazing thing!!  We will definitely share pictures on Seesaw.  Miss Anne brought in a former Halloween costume Robot that she made with her daughter and husband to share with the students.  So the students have an idea what they will be making.  Thanks Miss Anne!!

Our letter this week is W and we will be working on patterning for math.  Our story this week will be Clink, a story about a lonely robot left in the store to collect dust, until a little boy comes to take him home!!  For art we will make a robot using tubes and continue to use the playdoh mats to strengthen our fine motor skills.

The afternoon class will be exploring transportation with the University Circle Initiative and visit The Cleveland History Center (Western Reserve) on March 9.  The students have loved this program and really have done an amazing job riding the bus and following the group plan staying together.  Thank you to all the families who have made the trips with us.  In April,  we will be visiting the Botanical Gardens and in May we will visit the Music Settlement again.  Both trips will be awesome!

Their will always be obstacles that lie in the path that you are forced to create yourself, but never fret. These obstacles are only there to make you spread your wings farther, so that you can push harder, and fly higher

Week 5 Building a Robot

This week we thought we would take building in a new direction.  The students will build a robot and will learn to create their own robots.

This is a super cute story of Pete the Cat- Robo Pete by James Dean.  We will also read My Robot by Eve Bunting and clink by Kelly DiPucchio.  For art we will build a robot out of shapes, build our own robot out of cardboard boxes and cut and paste a robot back together.  Our letter this week is H.  It is a quiet sound that the students will learn to breathe hot air into the palm of their hand to make the H sound.  We will practice our names with playdoh and write the letter H with dry erase crayons.  Please practice the letters with your child at home  along with their sounds.

If anyone would like a copy of the playdoh mat with your child’s name on it let me know.  I am having them made is all upper case letters as well.  Using these is a super great way for students to build the letters of their name kinesthetically.  Send me an email or talk to me and I would be happy to have them made for you.

Building week 4

This week we will be focusing on what materials go into buildings.  The dramatic play area will be set up as a construction site.  They will be able to use and look at real blue prints!!   The kids will have the opportunity to use real tools like hammers and screwdrivers to create and explore. This week will be begin building our own boats and creating a mock city map with familiar buildings from Fairview Park.    Math this week we will be focusing on sorting and the letter of the week is L.

Building with marshmallows last week was very successful and you will get to see the students products when they bring them home this week.  They really loved it and making igloos was a challenge.

For the PM class, this week in art we will be making a valentine to take upstairs with us when we visit Ms. Smith’s  Kindergarten class on Wednesday.    As you may remember, the kindergartners came down to show the students Coding.  This visit we will be learning how to use ChatterPix.  The students in the end will be able to make pictures talk.  It will be great fun to see what they create together.  Also, visiting the Kindergarten classes will begin to show our soon to be kindergartners what life is like “upstairs.”

Also, the afternoon class will have their Monday class with Miss Ablea from the University Circle Initiative.  This week we will be going to the Museum of Contemporary Art.  This unit should be very interesting.  Last field trip was so fun for everyone!  Ice skating was a huge success!!

On Tuesday we have ZUMBA class !!! AM class 9:30 and PM class 1:15.  This is always a fun class to take and the kids have a great time.  Watch Seesaw for posts of your child is having fun and learning in DAP.
