Journal 7: Mother May Eye?

For this journal, I am showing a mystery photo for a story I wrote to go with it. I hope you enjoy my story!

——————————————————————————————–

This is a tale that has been told for thousands of years. It is a story of warning to all who may own a cat. Pay attention to the story, and you shall survive.

—————————————————————————————–

One day in a small cottage in the land of Zekrom, a man, Cain, his wife, Bela, and their daughter, Sara, decided to go out and buy a pet.

“A dog should be a fine pet for such a small girl,” said Cain.

“No, a smaller, quieter animal shall be best. Sara should love to have a fish,” said Bela.

“Well, if you two are going to argue, then I will decide,” said Sara.

“Fine,” said Bela, “You may decide.”

They walked around the shop for quite some time while waiting for Sara to decide. Sara often longingly stared at some of the animals, but then she would just walk away as if she had never even been there. After almost two hours had passed, Sara heard something. She ran towards the noise, wondering what it was. She looked, and in front of her, she saw what it was. In a bunch of boxes stacked in front of her, there were cats and kittens just waiting to be taken home.

“Oh, look! This is what I want,” exclaimed Sara.

Sara looked in each of the boxes. After a while, she finally decided to get a small, multicolored cat with beautiful green eyes.

“Can I get this one? I would just love to have her,” said Sara.

Cain and Bela talked over Sara’s decision for quite some time. Finally they realized that they had told Sara that she could pick what she wanted. So they went up to the counter and paid for Sara’s cat.

When they finally got back home, Bela told Sara she should name the cat.

“What is a good name? She should have a beautiful name, “ said Sara.

After a while, they had made a list of names for the cat.

  • Emma

  • Casey

  • Sweetie

  • May

  • June

“So which will you pick? I would choose Sweetie,” said Bela.

“I think May would be a wonderful name for her. I quite like it,” Sara explained.

So they decided to name the cat May. May loved to sleep, play, and eat just like any other cat, but there was something different about her. She seemed to not like Cain, no matter what he did. Then again, Cain was about to tell Sara to pick a different pet, but why would that matter to a cat?

Later that night, Sara was writing in her diary,

March 12, 1990

Dear Diary,

I just got a cat today. We named her May. I love her very much, but she just despises Papa. No matter what he does, May just runs away from him! That’s why I have to do all of the chores that involve the cat, because Mama does all of the other chores, and May won’t touch her things if Papa touches them.

There is something about May though. She seems different than all of the other cats that I saw. There is a look in her eyes, but I can’t tell what it is. It’s almost as if May is thinking of something, or someone. No one knows what it is though.

Goodnight!

-Sara

That whole night, Cain couldn’t stop thinking about that horrid cat.

Why does it seem to hate me?, Cain thought, There must be a reason, but what? What could it be?

Bela couldn’t stop thinking about the cat either! She decided to write down why she thought the cat seemed so mysterious.

  • Haunting eyes

  • Seems to be thinking about something

  • Hates Cain

  • Extremely quiet

Nobody could stop thinking about the cat that night. Bela and Cain were extremely grumpy that morning.

“Now hurry up and eat your breakfast,” said Cain, “You don’t want to be late for doing chores today.”

“I even made a list of what you need to do while we are gone,” said Bela, “ That way you won’t forget.”

Bela gave Sara the long list of chores to do while she and Cain went out to the town.

1. Wash dishes

2. Clean May’s litter box

3. Make beds

4. Feed May

5. Wash laundry

6. Dry laundry

7. Fold laundry

8. Put away laundry

9. Sweep and mop the kitchen

10. Clean your bedroom

11. Wash the windows

12. Mow the lawn

13. Water the flowers

14. Water the vegetable garden

15. Clean out your closet

Sara was very angry that she had so many chores to do, but she didn’t mind. She could just call up her friend, Adam. Sara knew that Adam would be willing to help, because he always helped her. So, she went across the street to get him. She knocked on the door, and Adam’s mother answered.

“Hello Mrs. Miller,” said Sara, “ May I speak to Adam please?”

“Well of course you may. Come on in!”

Sara walked in to the Millers’ familiar home. She had been there so many times that she could walk through the whole house with her eyes closed.

“He should be in his room,” said Mrs. Miller, “I wouldn’t be surprised if he was in there.”

Sara ran up the staircase to Adam’s room. She had to knock on the door several times before he finally answered.

“Who is it?”

“It’s just me, Sara.”

“Why are you here?”

“I need help with something.”

“Oh yeah? Just what is this something you are talking about.”

“Open the door and let me in. I’ll show you.”

“Fine. Come in.”

Sara opened the door and walked into his room. It was a mess, as usual. She didn’t mind though. Her room wasn’t any better.

“What is this thing that you have to show me?”

Sara showed him the list of chores. Adam grabbed it and read over it.

“Will you help me?” asked Sara

“Sure,” said Adam.

They walked back to Sara’s house. As soon as they walked in, Adam sensed something was wrong. That sense grew stronger as he walked toward the cat.

“Is there something wrong with your cat?” asked Adam?

“No! Why would you think that?”

“I feel like there is something mysterious about it.”

Sara believed him. Adam could always tell when there was something wrong. Her question was how. How could he tell? It seemed almost magical.

“ So what’s first to do on the list?”

Sara got out the list and showed him it again.

1. Wash dishes

2. Clean May’s litter box

3. Make beds

4. Feed May

5. Wash laundry

6. Dry laundry

7. Fold laundry

8. Put away laundry

9. Sweep and mop the kitchen

10. Clean your bedroom

11. Wash the windows

12. Mow the lawn

13. Water the flowers

14. Water the vegetable garden

15. Clean out your closet

“Oh. Looks like we’ll be washing dishes!”

They walked into the kitchen, thinking that they could finish this easily. Then they saw the large pile of dishes in the sink.

“I’ll wash, and you dry,” said Adam.

They got to work quickly. They had half the dishes done in an hour. May came stalking into the room, and onto the counter. Sara tried to keep her away, but May wouldn’t leave. May jumped on top of the pile of clean plates, and vomited right there on top of them.

“Oh May. Why do you always make such a mess of things? Well, it looks like we have even more dishes to do Adam.”

Adam groaned. They were both tired of doing dishes. Why couldn’t they go and do something more interesting? Both of them turned and glared at May. May growled and hissed. All of a sudden, she started to grow bigger. She kept growing bigger and bigger up until she was at least two times Adam’s height. She had long, white fangs. Her fur was spiked and ragged looking. She jumped up and attacked both of them.

“Run! She’s going to attack you Adam! Come on, let’s get out of here!”

May chased the two children all the way out to the woods. The children ran and hid in a large grove of trees, where May would never find them. Hopefully.

“Do you think we’ll be safe here? We are quite far away from home, and May has turned into a monster! Even worse, I’ll bet she’s destroyed the house by now. Oh, our parents are probably worried sick.”

As Sara rambled on, Adam tried to find food, or water. They would probably be here awhile. As he walked through the grove of trees, he thought he saw a stream not too far off in the distance. He started to walk toward it, when he heard a rustling sound from the trees behind them. May came barreling in through the trees, and tried to attack Sara.

“Sara! Run!”

The two children started to run through the trees. May wasn’t that far behind. Adam saw a small house of in the distance. It was not that far away from where they were.

“Sara! There is a small house not too far off that way! Come on!”

They ran toward the house. Once they reached it, they went inside and locked the door and all of the windows. They saw a staircase leading underground. The two children climbed down it, looking for a place to hide in case May broke in. There wasn’t much down there besides a couch, a couple chairs, a table, a lamp, and a small closet.

“So where should we hide? I think we should go for the closet,” said Adam.

“I agree. Nowhere else seems safe enough,” said Sara.

The two children walked into the small closet. After they shut the door, they felt around for a light switch, or a lamp. Adam bumped something, and all of a sudden a bright light came on. Sara found another doorknob.

“Hey Adam! What do you think this is?”

“A better hiding place! Come on!”

Adam switched off the light and the two children bolted down the stairs behind the newly found door. May would never find them here! She was much too big to be able to even get into the closet, let alone down the stairs to their new hiding spot! This room was more full than the last room. It looked like a secret master bedroom! Two twin sized beds, with brand-new looking sheets, pillows, and blankets. A small table with a lamp that actually worked. A desk and chair. A mini-fridge filled with food, which wasn’t even spoiled! There was a small table with a microwave and toaster on top of it.  The room also had a small pantry filled with canned and boxed goods. A large closet with a lot of space. They could last months up here! May would never even try to find them here.

The children were starved. Who knew how long they’d been gone? Each of the children decided to have a can of soup. They heated the cans one by one in the microwave. Sara sat down and began eating hers. So did Adam.

“When do you think we will get out of here Adam?”

“Soon. It has to be soon. May could come bursting in at any moment. Let’s pack some supplies in this bag over here. Then if May comes we are prepared to run.”

The two children packed the bag with cans of soup and bottles of water.  They also went over to the bed and grabbed several small blankets and pillows for sleeping. They would need them later.

“Hey Sara! What do you think is in this closet over here?”

“Oh I don’t know. Weapons? Another way out? More food? You go in first, then I will go in.”

Adam walked into the closet. Sara walked in next. When they turned on the light, they saw weapons, and a lot of them. Adam packed several swords, and a bow and arrow. He also packed several arrow for the bow and arrow.

“Okay Sara. We have weapons and food packed. Do we need anything else?”

“No. Let’s leave now, while there is still some daylight left.”

The children ran up the stairs that they had come down earlier. When they got up though, the room that they had come into earlier that day was a wreck.

“May must have been here already. Come on Sara, we’d better run.”

“Where should we run? I don’t think there’s any shelter anywhere nearby.”

“Just run. That’s all I can say.”

The two children ran out of the door, and into the woods. They ran for several miles, until they had to stop and rest. They each took a water bottle from the supply bag, and began to drink.  Then they began running again. They kept running for hours, occasionally stopping to rest and take a drink. They would always start right back up again though. At one point, after several more hours had passed, it began to get dark. It became darker and darker as they went on.

“Let’s sleep over in that cave for the night. It shouldn’t be too bad,” said Sara.

“No. There might be bears. Not a good idea. How about we just sleep on the ground? May is more likely to think that we went to hide in a cave, especially since we hid in a house earlier.”

“Oh yeah! You’re right. If I get attacked by May during the night though, I’m blaming you.”

“Okay. Let’s set our stuff up right here then. That way we can get to sleep right away.”

They laid out the blankets and pillows on the ground and began to sleep. They slept soundly for hours, until a loud sound from behind woke Sara.

“Adam! Wake up! I heard something. I think it might be May!”

“What? It’s probably nothing. It has to be nothing. You are probably just tired, and so you’re hearing things.”

Right then, May came charging in through the trees. Sara screamed.

“I told you I heard something Adam! We have to do something!”

Adam grabbed one of the swords from the bag and charged at May. Unfortunately, May knew that Adam was going to try and be brave, so she opened up her mouth and ate him!

“No! Bad kitty! You don’t eat people! Spit him out right now!”

Sara sobbed to herself just a little. She was sad that Adam was dead. Well probably dead. He had protected her this whole time! She wiped away the tears and grabbed a large stick from on the ground. While screaming, she began to charge at May. May opened up her mouth, ready to swallow Sara, but Sara put the stick vertically in May’s mouth, holding it open. Adam climbed out of her mouth. He was soaked, and he kind of smelled bad, but Sara was glad that he was safe.

“Thank you for saving me Sara.”

“Okay. Just don’t touch me. You’re covered in May’s drool.”

May shrunk back into a normal sized cat. Sara and Adam went back home.

“Sara! Adam! Where have you been? We’ve all been worried sick,” said Cain.

“Well,” said Adam,”May grew into a monster and attacked us. So we ran into the woods. Now she’s back to normal. I recommend you get a new cat. Just saying.”

The adults all agreed with Adam. After hearing their story, they realized that it must’ve been May who ruined the house, not the children.

So eventually, Sara got a new cat. May was sent to a place where she would be kept away from anyone she could hurt.

So, they all lived happily ever after. Except May of course!

THE END!

—————————————————————————————–

So that was my story. Now I will reveal what the mystery photo was. It was actually my cat, Mittens. Mittens plays May in my story. Sometimes he can be quite vicious! He never grows into a monster though.
