1.  The subtitle of the article reads “Was Abraham Lincoln a reluctant emancipator or a political genius”.  Do you think Lincoln was a more of a “reluctant emancipator”, a “political genius”, or a combination of both?  Explain.

2.  Although the Emancipation did not immediately end slavery, the article discusses several important accomplishments of emancipation.  In your own words what were these accomplishments?  In your opinion which, if any, is the most important?  Why?

3.  The article concludes with a brief discussion on the legacy of emancipation.  Discuss some of the lasting legacies of emancipation and conclude with some thoughts of your own on the legacy of emancipation.
