Joseph Albers

Josef Albers (March 19, 1888 – March 25, 1976) was a German-born American artist and educator whose work formed the basis of some of the most influential and far-reaching art education programs of the 20th century.

Albers is best remembered for his work as an abstract painter and theorist. He made hundreds of paintings and prints that make up the series Homage to the Square.  Albers explored many different arrangements of colored squares.

Project –  Collage: Albers Squares

 

1. Cut out at least 4 squares:

  • 1 extra-large
  • 1 large
  • 1 medium
  • 1 small

2. Glue them on top of each other.

3. Frame with a white background

Materials:

  • Construction Paper
  • Glue
  • Pencil
  • Rulers
  • Scissors
