US History – American Neutrality During World War I

Excellent video giving the main reasons why President Woodrow Wilson & Congress remained neutral during the early part of World War I.  After viewing this video and reviewing your notes (slides 54-60) on American neutrality answer the following questions…

  1.  For what major reasons did the United States remain neutral at the outbreak of war in Europe?
  2. Which factor do you think was the greatest in influencing American neutrality?  Explain.
  3. Many would argue the Unites States was far from a truly a “neutral” country during the early years of World War I?  Why would people feel this way?
