US History – The Allies Turn the Tide of the War

After the attack on Pearl Harbor and the US entry into WWII, the Allies will begin to turn the tide of the war in their favor and make the push to defeat the Axis Powers.  Review the following information and complete the assignment below.

Review slides 54-73 in the unit notes (Mr. M’s WWII Notes).  Up the D-Day Invasion.  Mr. M’s WWII Notes

Watch the following video covering the Allies push against the Axis Powers in Europe:  Beating Hitler Part 1 (prior to D-Day)

Watch the following video covering the Allies push against the Axis Powers in the Pacific:  Beating Japan Part 1 (Midway & Island Hopping)

Assignment:  After reviewing the notes and watching these videos create a brief presentation covering the major campaigns (including important battles in each) that were considered important turning points in defeating the Axis powers in World War II.  Consider the following campaigns; The Pacific (vs Japan), The Atlantic, The Southern Front or “soft underbelly of the axis powers” (North Africa & Italy), The Eastern Front (Soviet Union), The Western Front (bombing & eventual invasion of Hitler’s “Fortress Europe”).

*You must dedicate at least 1 slide (may need more) to each major campaign and include a visual representation of some kind for each (pictures, maps, charts, diagrams, etc).  *Make sure you highlight important items such as campaigns, battles, strategies, people, etc.
