Last week of school

circle-of-children
This will be the last week of school before our Winter Break.  Hard to believe the year is half over.  We are on break from December 19th and return to school on January 2, 2017.

This last week we will continue to practice our two songs, Snowflake and Little Snowman.  The children are very excited to sing them for you.  If you cannot attend the evening performance on Thursday Dec. 15th you are welcome to attend the dress rehearsal on Thursday at 10 AM.  For those PM families, if you want your child to practice you will need to bring them and take them home again.  School will remain the same in the PM.  This final week before break we will be stepping away from our clothing unit and finishing up our winter crafts.  Our story this last week is The Sneezey Snowman.  It is a cute story of how a snowman melts because he is cold and sneezing!!.  The students will have a chance to create a new way that their snowman melts.  Our letter is F and our math concept is patterning.

We wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

The Mitten

This week we will be reading The Mitten by Jan Brett.  We will retell the story through sequencing activities, creating mittens for art, rhyming, counting to 10 for math  and working on our art projects for the Holiday Concert.  We will continue to practice our songs, Snowflake and I’m a Little Snowman to the tune of I’m a Little Teapot.  Please practice the songs at home with your child so that they are ready for the big night!  Tickets are always in hot demand.  As soon as the invite to get tickets for the show is released, please turn in your request ASAP.  Each family generally gets 2 tickets per family.  It often is a standing room only event!!

Llama Llama Red Pajama!!

The next two weeks we will return to our Clothing Unit and read Llama Llama Red Pajama.  The children will use play doh mats and create clothing items.  They will separate clothing items  and pretend to wash them in the washer and dry them in the dryer.  The children will hang up clothes on a clothes line and match socks.

The last week before break we will focus on the Christmas.  We will practice our winter songs for the Winter Program on December 15th.  See the links below for your child to begin to practice the songs we have chosen to sing.

words-to-xmas-song  This is the second song to practice at home with your child.  The program is so fun and amazing for everyone.

For the PM class we will be visiting the Cleveland Natural History Museum the first week of December which is where we went on our first family outing.  It will be a great time for the children to revisit the museum.img_0317

Yes! We are thankful!

being_thankful_cardBeing Thankful!

This week will be all about Thanksgiving and what it means to be thankful.  We will be discussing what we are thankful for and how to keep it in our hearts all year round.  Our centers and art projects will all have a Thanksgiving theme.  We will be cooking this week making our own holiday dessert and ending the week with our annual Turkey Trot.  This week is always nice to be with the children as their pure and genuine honesty of what they are thankful for helps bring simplicity to our lives.  We are thankful for you.

Remember to sign up for a conference if have not already.

Week before Halloween! Pumpkins and Witches oh my!!

Since Halloween falls on a Monday it just didn’t make sense to do pumpkin and Halloween themed activities all next week after Halloween is over.  So we decided to step away from our trees study and do pumpkins and Halloween themed centers this week.  For dramatic play we will have dress up outfits and Halloween costumes for the children to play with and use their imagination.  We will have Pumpkin Playdough, Math centers using candy corn to count, along with books about bats and other scary Halloween friends.  At the end of the week we will investigate a pumpkin by figuring out if it will sink or float, what is inside and what does it feel like.  There will also be a surprise in the sensory table this week!!!

Our letters this week is a review of all letters we have learned so far..M R S T P N

On Halloween we will be having a building wide parade that starts at 9:45.  AM class children come to school dressed in their costumes and come in the classroom as usual. (parents make sure to either put the costume over their clothes or pack clothes to change into…we will change out of our costumes after the parade).  Then we will head over to the gym at around 9:30 and there will be donuts and a craft to keep everyone busy while we get organized for the parade. (parents/grandparents can join the kids to do the craft and to have donuts)

If weather permits we then walk out the back doors of the gym and parade around the building.  Parents, Grandparents etc then stand outside along the sidewalks and take pictures as the kids parade around the school.  Everyone is welcome to watch.

PM students and family are welcome to join the parade as well.  Just go straight to the gym with your child in their costume and partake in the donuts and craft.  We will all walk together (AM and PM)

The ASQ link is in the process of being loaded to the website.  When it is up and running we will let you know.  Using the seesaw app has been fun for the children to see their work after I have taken a picture and for them to tell you what it is.  If I accidentally send someone else’s picture or video to you please let me know.  I am notorious for making technological mistakes!!rules

This week is the letter is S.  We will make a snake or choose to paint.  We will practice making the letter S on a page that reinforces the skyline, airplane line (middle line) and the grass line-bottom.  Kindergarten uses this program called  Fundations.  The children will see the letter S and picture of something that begins with S and then make the sound ie) S, snake /s/.  This will be how we will teach the children the letter and the corresponding sound.  It is amazing how quickly they will pick up the sound and letter identification.  We will also begin to assess all of our students in the next few weeks as the Ohio Department of Education strongly suggests that all of our students are assessed within the first 30 days of school.  This truly is a baseline to see what they know and what they need to learn!!

If you have not filled out your transition from day care to school sheet and or roster please let me know and I will email it to you.  The Step Up to Quality Folks have not come yet but they could any day.

The ASQ link is in the process of being loaded to the website.  When it is up and running we will let you know.  Also if you get a link for Seesaw please click on it and I will welcome you to the group.  It really is a super way to see what your student in doing.  I will try to upload pictures and videos at least twice a week if not more!!
