This cat has a pattern of stripes.

The stripes were created from tiny lines.

The lines are arranged in rows.

Project – Drawing: Patterns and Textures

YOU CAN COMPLETE THIS PROJECT USING PAPER OR ON YOUR IPAD WITH AN APP LIKE SKETCHES SCHOOL.

1. Make a list of animals. Divide the animals into 3 groups; pets, wild animals and farm animals.

2. Select an animal to draw. You can choose:

  • A real animal: It helps if it is an animal you remember well.

  • An imaginary animal: If you have not had very much experience with animals, create your own imaginary creature with an unusual texture or pattern.

3. Sketch your animal as large as you can in the center of the page. Use all of your paper.

4. Add lines, shapes and patterns to show texture.

5. Ink your drawing. Trace over all your lines with sharpie markers. Use a sheet of scratch paper underneath to protect the table.
