Franz Kline (May 23, 1910 – May 13, 1962) was an American painter. He is associated with the Abstract Expressionist movement of the 1940’s and 1950’s. PEOPLE WERE SHOCKED BY THE RAW EMOTION AND ENERGY THAT COULD BE shown BY THIS type OF BRUSHWORK. EVEN THOUGH THERE IS NO IDENTIFIABLE SUBJECT, THE ACT OF PAINTING ITSELF BECAME A FORM OF ARTISTIC EXPRESSION.
Kline is recognized as one of the most important yet problematic artists of the Abstract Expressionist movement in New York. His style is difficult for critics to interpret. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT KLINE’s WORK?
