He studied Fine Arts at The Ohio State University.
His style spans Cubism and Expressionism to Pop Art and Abstract Expressionism.
Lichtenstein began making Pop Art in the early 1960’s. One of his most famous paintings was Drowning Girl (1963).
Lichtenstein appropriated or borrowed from comics. A famous painting called Whaam! (1963) is of a plane crashing.

Roy Lichtenstein. Whaam!, 1963. Magna on canvas. 2 panels; 68 x 166 inches overall; 172.7 x 421.6 cm overall
Some people thought that Lichtenstein’s work was unoriginal.
Other people saw differences between his comic book style paintings and the comic book drawings that inspired him.
Lichtenstein used color, line, movement and text to tell a complete story in one painting.
Comic books use many drawings to tell the story.
