The Community

Community Helpers:  The focus of the unit is that children will learn about the role of the community in their lives and the importance of good citizenship!

The first week of our unit on Community Helpers we will learn about the Post Office.  We will transform the housekeeping area in a Post Office and encourage the children toUSPS2 pretend to be Postal Workers.  While playing in the Post Office the children will take turns selling and buying stamps, boxes and sending packages.  The children will practice stuffing (great two handed activity using  both sides of the brain), and addressing envelopes.

During the week, you may want to take your child to the Post Office and have them see what a real post office is about.  Attached is a video about going to the Post Office.  WARNING: The video is a bit lengthy:)

We will also send a letter from school to our homes so that the children can actually receive a letter that they sent.

Halloween week:

Picture 1autism

This week we will be stepping away from the curriculum and enjoy some silly, fun and gooey Halloween antics.

We will carve and explore a pumpkin, have some Halloween sensory of orange spaghetti and spiders. On Thursday we will be doing special Halloween Centers and will be decorating sugar cookies into Jack-o-Lanterns for snack! If you would like to send in special treats for your child’s friends please feel free to send them in on Thursday ( we have a total of 11 children in the classroom)

This year my classroom is opting out of wearing costumes to school on Thursday since we have several friends who are scared of costumes (we want Thursday to be a fun day for all  ) We are highly encouraging our DAP friends to come to the BUILDING WIDE FESTIVITIES on Friday for all that attend:

8:45 -9:15 snack and craft in the gym

9:20 Halloween performance

9:45 All school Halloween parade

If you would like to have your child participate in the parade you may do so.

The first quarter of school ended on October 23rd.  You will be receiving progress notes and report cards via email within the next two weeks.  Conferences will be held the week of Thanksgiving. Remember there is no school that week.  I will be sending home reminders of when your conference is scheduled during that week.
