An Unusual Pattern

 

Today in math class, we were given the assignment to chose one of five sequences and analyze them. The problem I chose is calledĀ An Unusual PatternĀ which was a sequence of orange, blue and green squares that increased with each term. For this assignment, I had to choose 3 values from the sequence an figure out how they were increasing, find the 50th term and graph it. Here is my work below…

The first picture shows my work on the sequence as I tried to notice patterns with the increase and decrease of the different values in the sequence. It also shows the equations I came up with to represent the pattern and the number of different colored circles at term fifty. The graphs represent each pattern and the dotted lines represent their values at term fifty (the lines are color coded).

With this exercise, I learned how to plot points on Desmos (the graphing calculator that I used) and how to solve equations using Desmos.
