  1. Write your name and class code on the back of your paper with pencil.

  2. Use circle templates. Flip over your paper and begin making circles wherever you want on the paper. The circles can touch, overlap, go inside and go off the page. Try to make a good combination of about 10 circles.

  3. Paint the background. The background (the spaces around and in-between your circles) will be the negative space in your design. Choose ONE color and mix it with white together in the tray. This color will be the background color or negative space. (Stick to one color, you will mix many more colors in the rest of your design. Paint all areas of background.

  4. Paint the Circles. The circles will become your positive space. For each new circle, or shape created by the circles, try to mix a new tint. tints are any color plus white. You can paint rainbow rings or paint the entire shape one solid color. It is up to you! Mix more colors, one at a time, and paint until all the circles are filled. This will take some time, be patient and enjoy yourself!

  5. Add details with oil pastels. When the positive space (circles) are all painted and after the paint has dried, add embellishments with the Oil Pastels. Embellishments are designs, patterns, symbols, shading, etc. that you can add to your artwork.
