Dr. Suess week

This week we will not only be celebrating right to read week but also Dr. Seuss’s Birthday!!!

All of our centers this week will be centered around Dr. Seuss.

We have fun ideas planned everyday this week with a “dress up” theme as well.

Monday- “Sleep Book” – Pajama Day!!! one of Ms Molly’s favorite days

Tuesday- “Green Eggs and Ham” -wear the color green

Wednesday- “Wacky Wednesday “- wear mismatched clothes, backwards, inside out—get silly

Thursday- “The Cat in the Hat” – wear your favorite hat

Yep you guessed it…We are still building!!

The kids are really having a great time with the building study!!  Their imaginations are soaring and taking over in the classroom.  Everyday when the kids leave they have been asking if they can play the same centers again.  It is so rewarding to hear the excitement in their voice and watch them learn while playing and creating.

This week we will be bringing back some of the “center favorites” while throwing in some Valentines Day activities.  We will be building with Valentines heart candy and measuring how high we can get them along with some other building activities. For math we will be making patterns with the candy as well.  The letter of the week is “H” for heart.

Art this week will be a surprise and the kids are really excited about it!!

Here is a quick reminder about Valentines Day:

We will have a normal day with Valentine-ish activities in each center.  For snack we will be decorating cookies with frosting.  You are welcome to send in Valentines for your child’s class.  Please do not address them to anyone, just help them sign them. If your child is in the AM class there are 11 students.  If your child is in the afternoon class there are 1o students.  We will help your child deliver their Valentines after snack.  Any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to email me.

DANGER!! HARD HAT AREA

This week we will be focusing on what materials go into buildings.  The dramatic play area will be set up as a construction site.  They will be able to use and look at real blue prints!! This week will be begin building our own boats and finish building our “own buildings and cities”.  The kids will have the opportunity to use real tools like hammers and screwdrivers to create and explore. The light table will have letter matching rocks.   Math this week we will be focusing on ten frames and counting to 20.

The kids (and teachers) are really enjoying this study.  We have all worked together to come up with a plan of what they want to learn about.  The kids have really been driving this unit and have pulled us in so many different directions that Mrs. Molly and I could not have imagined!!  It is such a pleasure to watch them get excited about what and how they are learning.

On Tuesday we have ZUMBA class !!! AM class 9:30 and PM class 1:15.  This is always a fun class to take and the kids have a great time.  Watch Seesaw for posts of your child having fun!!

PM class only:

We will be visiting the Cleveland Museum of Contemporary Art (M.O.C.A.)

Cleveland’s Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) plays an urgent and exciting role in the city’s cultural landscape. As a non-collecting institution and the region’s only contemporary art museum, MOCA is ever-changing, introducing new exhibitions three times a year and creating fresh experiences for visitors each season. Since its founding in 1968, MOCA has presented the works of more than 2,000 artists to our region, often through artists’ first solo shows.

MOCA acts as both conduit and catalyst for anyone seeking creativity and inspiration.

For 45 years, MOCA, Northeast Ohio’s only contemporary art museum, has brought the art and ideas of our time to Cleveland and beyond. MOCA was the first in the region to exhibit the works of vanguard artists like Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, Laurie Anderson, Roy Lichtenstein, and Christo; and they continue to bring the work of emerging and established regional, national, and international artists to our area.
