We are very fortunate that the district has purchased an amazing, all-encompassing program that will help students with their college and career search.  It will also streamline the college application process.  This program is called Naviance and we are so excited to be able to use it.  Please bear with us, as we are only a step in front of you in terms of training and knowing how to utilize it!  We will be handing out the student registration codes at our senior seminar next week, and parent access will follow (we want the students to have the first opportunity to look at it and play around).

Seniors~~ the deadline for the Honors Diploma is quickly approaching.  You can download an Honors Diploma application from the Resources tab of the School Counseling page.  Check off at least 7 of the criteria that you meet and turn it in by May 8th.  It is that simple!  We will verify that you do indeed meet at least 7 of the 8 criteria, and if you do, you will receive an Honors diploma from the State of Ohio! 🙂

ACT Prep

It is that time of year when juniors need to start planning to take the ACT and/or SAT for the first time (if they haven’t already).  Here are some helpful resources to check out:

The Ohio Means Jobs website that I referred to earlier has a great test prep section! is another great one!

Also, the Fairview Park branch of the public library is hosting a practice test session (given by the Princeton Review) for the ACT on Saturday, March 28th from 9:30am-1:30 pm.  They will also have a Test Score Review session for those students (parents and guardians are welcome too) on Thursday, April 9th at 7:00 pm.  Registration is required for both events.

For the first time since I can remember (I’ve been at FHS for 18 years), we are offering the ASVAB to any student not taking the OGTs next week.  What is the ASVAB?  It stands for Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery.  It is not just for students interested in joining the military after high school, it is open to any student who is interested in gaining some information about their own career strengths.  This is a free test, and it will be offered Wednesday, March 18th and Thursday, March 19th at the Gemini Center at 7:45 am both days.  It is a two part administration, so students must attend both days.  If you have questions or would like to sign up, please see Mrs. Tieri in the Counseling Office!!!

College Credit Plus (or CCP) is the new and improved Post Secondary Enrollment Option, where students can take college courses (either at the high school or the college campus) and receive dual high school and college credit.  We held an evening meeting on February 26th for interested students and their parents.  If you missed that meeting, you can find information on our website, including a Powerpoint that we presented.  If you are interested in finding out more about this exciting opportunity, please feel free to email me at or call at (440)356-3500 ext. 4103.

Scheduling for 2015-2016

It is hard to believe that it is that time of year already!  We will be talking to all students in grades 8-11 over the next week about scheduling classes for next school year.  Class registration will take place on Powerschool again, as it has in the past.  We encourage you to talk to with your parents and your current teachers about course selections for next year.  We will be on an eight period day, so you can schedule up to 7 periods.  If you are considering taking an Honors or Advanced Placement class, we want you to get the approval from your teacher (and parent) prior to requesting the class in Powerschool. We would like all course requests in Powerschool by the last week of February.  If you have any questions about scheduling, courses, etc. feel free to stop down to the counseling office.  We would be happy to help:)
