Painting: Mixing Colors

The color wheel will help you remember some names of colors and how to mix them.

  • Primary colors are red, yellow and blue. You can mix other colors from them.

  • Secondary colors are orange, green and violet. These colors are created by mixing two primary colors.

  • Intermediate or tertiary colors are yellow-orange, yellow-green, red-violet, red-orange, blue-violet, blue-green. All these can be mixed from primary colors.

  • Related colors are next to each other on the color wheel. For example, blue, blue-violet and violet are related colors.

Goal: Practice mixing paint to create secondary and intermediate colors. Make three sets of related colors; oranges, greens and violets.

1. PAINT 4 CIRCLES OF THE BASE COLOR.

2. Add SMALL dots of color to the circles. (FIRST 1, THEN, 2, 3, 4).

3. mix the colors. brush the dots of paint so the colors mix together.

BRUSH TIP: CLEAN YOUR BRUSH EVERY TIME YOU CHANGE COLORS!

1. WASH 2. WIPE 3. BLOT 4. DIP
