Drawing: Shapes of Pictures

Artists plan their drawings and paintings. They can plan a tall, vertical picture. This is a PORTRAIT FORMAT.

They can plan a wide, horizontal picture. This is called landscape format.

 

You can learn to look for pictures to draw or paint.

You can plan the shapes of the pictures you create.

A viewfinder is a sheet of paper with a hole or shape cut out of it.

He planned the shapes of his pictures to show the city in different ways.

TAKE MANY PHOTOgraphs of interesting spaces from unusual angles of your classroom, hallway or outside the window.

TAKE BOTH vertical and horizontal PICTURES.

Project – DRAWING: Shapes of Pictures

1. open your camera app on your ipad.

2. take lots of pictures of interesting spaces.

3. crop YOUR PICTURE INTO EITHER A

  • vertical picture (or portrait format).

  • horizontal picture (or landscape format).

  • SQUARE PICTURE (both sides are equal length)

4. OPEN YOUR PHOTO IN AUTODESK SKETCHBOOK AND ADD A NEW LAYER TO TRACE OR SKETCH YOUR PHOTO. ADD COLOR OR PATTERNS IN YOU HAVE EXTRA TIME.

5. upload YOUR BEST DRAWING to SEESAW.

Extensions

Perceptual Skills: Take iPads or viewfinders and sketching paper outside. Draw the school or your neighborhood using your viewfinder.
