You can draw curved lines.

Curved lines make shapes.

You can draw straight lines.

Straight lines can make shapes.

Now let’s make a drawing using shapes.

Close your eyes and imagine you are on your way home from school.

Project 4 – Drawing: Lines Make Shapes

1. Make a drawing of your house or apartment using all the shapes that you know.

2. Think big! start with the biggest shapes and work down to the smallest.

  • What shapes can you see?

  • What is the shape of your roof?

  • What shapes can you see?

  • What about the roof windows and doors?

  • Are the shapes squares or rectangles?

3. Keep going until you get all the way down to the smaller shapes such as bricks, concrete, wood, door knobs, TV antennas, telephone poles, mailboxes, etc.

4. COLOR IN YOUR DRAWING WITH YOUR FAVORITE DRAWING MATERIALS.

5. UPLOAD AN IMAGE OF YOUR ARTWORK TO SEESAW WHEN YOU ARE DONE.

PERCEPTUAL SKILLS AND LANGUAGE ARTS: TAKE A WALK THROUGH THE SCHOOL OR NEIGHBORHOOD TO LOOK FOR AND NAME GEOMETRIC SHAPES AND/OR LINES. CARRY A CARD WITH A SPECIFIC SHAPE DRAWN ON IT. LOOK FOR THE SHAPES DURING THE WALK. TRADE CARDS DURING THE WALK.

SOCIAL STUDIES: DRAW DIFFERENT TYPES OF BUILDINGS SUCH AS SKYSCRAPERS, SCHOOLS, HOSPITALS, AUTO SERVICE STATIONS AND SO ON.
